The story begins in Childers..... a cane growing region in central Queensland.
A young man named Bill Foster enlists to find his brother on the battlefields of France.

He leaves behind the rich tapestry of the canefields of Queensland and the love of his life, Isabelle. He aims to prove to the staunch and self inspired  Italian patriarch Mick De Luca, that he is worthy of her hand in marriage. De Luca will never let this happen. What happens to Bill will change his life forever!
